Amid devastating floods that have killed dozens and displaced thousands in China, over 900 snakes have escaped a Guangxi breeding farm into local waters.

But in Hengzhou, a southern Chinese city of some one million residents, floodwaters have brought that terrifying reality to their doorsteps.

Flood victims are reporting snakebites, and anti-venom supplies have been increased in the city of Hengzhou.
